Technology Basics

We will offer a mandatory Technology Orientation Session during Opening Term. Topics covered will include network services and restrictions, user account configuration (e-mail routing, passwords), McDonough School of Business Technology Center services, and software recommendations. Additionally, you can sign up for 30-minute sessions to receive help with password changes, printing setup, and to ensure that your individual system is appropriately configured for the MBA program. In the meantime, below is basic information and tools you will need to get started.

Student ID / NetID / Google E-Mail

NetIDs are automatically assigned, unique electronic identifiers for each authorized user at Georgetown. Your NetID is required for access to many of the systems and services you will use while at Georgetown. Having a NetID does not automatically give access to all computer systems or services. Expect an email from georgetownmba@georgetown.edu within two weeks of receiving your admission letter titled “Georgetown ID and Password Available – IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED.” This email will provide you with access information for your Georgetown Google email account. Once your email account has been set up, simply visit http://apps.georgetown.edu to log in.

The NetID can be accessed through the decision letter available in your online application. If you cannot access your NetID, or if you are unable to log in or experience any difficulties, contact University Information Systems (UIS) at 202-687-4577 or via email at help@georgetown.edu for assistance. Please update your password as soon as possible to avoid the expiration of your account.

GoCard
The GoCard is Georgetown’s official virtual identification card on your iOS or Android mobile device. – The GoCard provides your student ID number, allows access to certain facilities on campus, and can be used to pay for a variety of purchases both on and off-campus. Learn more about where you can use your GoCard. Upload your photo four weeks before arriving on campus.

Laptop Requirements

MBA students are required to have a personal laptop computer that runs the 64-bit version of Windows 10 or 11. The Technology Center also offers limited support of Apple’s macOS, including installation of Windows 11 virtual machines on both Intel and Silicon chip MacBooks, contingent on assessment of your computer hardware.

Additionally, please note that the Technology Center will only support machines that are running English versions of these platforms. If you are going to buy a new computer, we strongly recommend that you buy a PC.
