Transportation & Parking 

There are many transportation options to get to campus. Parking is at premium on campus, and as such most students opt not to bring their cars to campus. The information below may help you plan and determine which resources to use, whether you drive or use public transportation services.

Public Transit: Metrorail and Metrobus

Washington’s Metrorail is a convenient subway system with three stops within a 20–30 minute walk to Georgetown: Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom, and Dupont Circle. Students can also use Metrobus to reach campus, and the G2 directly drops you off at the front gates of the university. Metro fares start at $2.00 per ride off-peak and $2.25 peak hours with options for weekly and monthly passes. More information can be found at http://www.wmata.com.

Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS)

The GUTS Service operates five shuttle routes, connecting the campus to Metro stations at Dupont Circle (D.C.), Rosslyn and North Arlington (Va.), the GU Law Center on Capitol Hill, and University offices on Wisconsin Avenue, NW. Students with a valid GoCard can ride at no charge. Service maps can be found at http://otm.georgetown.edu/guts.

DC Circulator

The DC Circulator is a bus service with routes serving the center of the city; a North/South route between the Convention Center and the Southwest Waterfront and an East/West route from Union Station to Georgetown every day from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. The current fare to travel via the DC circulator is $1. On-Campus Parking

Generally, parking is not available for students on the Georgetown University campus. A limited number of daily parking spaces are available in the Southwest Garage, which MBA students sometimes use in emergency situations. The daily parking rate in the Southwest Garage is $25. Additionally, all current University students (with valid ID) may park in the Southwest Garage after 4:30 p.m. for a fee of $5. Cars must be moved out of the garage by 6 a.m. the following morning.

Residents in the surrounding Georgetown neighborhood often lease their parking spaces. These parking spaces are advertised on the Parking/Storage section on Craigslist.org.

Registering Your Car

Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland require automobile inspections prior to registering a vehicle. It is beneficial to register your car locally if you plan to park on the street as many neighborhoods require residential parking permits (neighborhood stickers), which extend the allowable parking time for local residents and may overrule restrictions on available parking spots. Students who do not choose to register their car locally may still obtain a “reciprocity parking permit” for select areas.
