Wednesday, August 4
Your MBA journey begins with a virtual Orientation on Wednesday, August 4, and will help prepare you for your MBA program by introducing you to platforms and tools to help you succeed, familiarizing you with standards and expectations, and most importantly, welcoming you to the Georgetown McDonough community.
Opening Term: The Hoya Way and In-person Residency #1
Monday, August 9, through Friday, August 20
Opening Term: The Hoya Way begins on Monday, August 9, and is a two-week immersive experience that serves as your academic launch point, grounding you in Georgetown’s values-driven approach to global business. During this dynamic and fast-paced period, you will participate in skills sessions designed to prepare you for the curriculum, hear from guest speakers, engage in community-building and networking opportunities, and complete your first MBA course: Ethics, Policy, and Global Engagement (1.5 credits).
You should expect virtual class sessions in the evenings of the first week, as well as virtual programming all day on Saturday, August 14.
Tuesday, August 17, through Friday, August 20, will also serve as your first required in-person program residency, during which you will be on campus in D.C. for full days of programming and classes. Please plan accordingly, as you will need to request these days off from work.
This will also be your first opportunity to really connect with your cohort and to get to know your Online MBA peers. Throughout the program, you’ll continue taking your foundational core courses with your cohort. Your cohort interactions will help you develop relationships and networks outside of the classroom that will last long after you graduate.
More information and a detailed schedule will be provided in late July by your Program Office advisor.

Travel & Hotel Accommodations
Plan to arrive in Washington, D.C on Monday, August 16, to check in to the hotel. There will be an Opening Term closing celebration on Friday, August 20 (evening), and hotel check-out will occur on Saturday.
For Residency #1, we will arrange and pay for your hotel accommodations. Please be aware that you are responsible for additional expenses, including transportation to Washington, D.C., and any meals not provided during your residency.
Given the academic expectations of the week and the opportunities for cohort bonding, we ask that all students - even those local to the DC metro area - stay in the hotel, and we encourage students to travel and stay at the hotel independently from any partners.
Hotel information will be provided in late July.
BADM 5400: Ethics, Policy, and Global Engagement examines how firms make decisions within ethical, policy, and global business environments. The course introduces frameworks and tools for analyzing how ethics, public policy, stakeholder dynamics, and cross-border markets shape business strategy and managerial decision-making. Students explore how laws, regulations, institutions, and societal expectations influence business behavior, as well as how global markets, cultural contexts, and international competition affect firms’ opportunities and constraints. Emphasizing Georgetown McDonough’s commitment to principled leadership, the course equips students to evaluate complex business challenges and make responsible and strategically sound decisions in an interconnected world.
Please note that some courses may require you to purchase additional materials through a custom coursepack or other materials available online; instructions on how to purchase those items will be delivered by your faculty. Faculty will post course materials shortly before their classes begin. If needed, textbooks can be purchased either in the bookstore or from online sources.
We recommend that you purchase a Texas Instrument BA-II Plus or HP 12C financial calculator. These models were chosen because they are the only calculators allowed for the CFA exams. Other types of calculators may not be approved by your faculty.
